Dakshina Moorthy-The Divine Guru
Dakshinamoorthy is a revered form of Lord Shiva in Hinduism, depicted as the ultimate guru (teacher) who imparts wisdom through silent knowledge. In this form, Shiva is seated facing south (Dakshina), symbolizing his role as the teacher of all knowledge, including spiritual, philosophical, and worldly understanding. He represents the enlightened sage who grants self-realization to seekers. In iconography, Dakshinamoorthy is shown with a serene expression, holding a book, rosary, and fire, while his hand gestures the Chinmudra, signifying the union of individual consciousness with the supreme. Seated under a banyan tree, he is surrounded by sages, signifying his silent but profound teaching. The concept of Dakshinamoorthy emphasizes introspection, meditation, and the pursuit of truth.
